Deep in the woods…. part 1

She follows, not knowing where he is leading, only that when they get there it will be “worth it.”

She silently thanks the rough hands and strong backs that laid this series of walkways over the perpetually damp ground. Rich mulchy smells rise from the wetness. The ferns in their prehistoric beauty brush against her sleeves as she steps carefully from one platform to the next. She is moving slowly, taking it all in.

He is already far ahead. The ferns and the flowers are of no consequence to him right now. He has seen them hundreds of times before. This place is like his second home. Right now, only their destination, just beyond the dense cool greenness of the forest, matters.

She will see.

He will show her.
